Designing with Personality

Award-winning architect Ashiesh Shah shares his tips for getting creative with your walls.

If you have a large, blank wall at home and aren’t sure how to fill it, don’t worry—it’s the perfect opportunity for creative expression. From unique shelves and paintings to wallpaper, photographs, and even video projections, there’s a wide range of ideas to explore.

Here are some ways to transform any space with personality:

Video Projection

One of the most innovative ways to use an empty wall is with video art. Easy to install and cost-effective, it lets you change what you project, keeping the space fresh. Experimenting with the projector placement creates different effects, adding depth and intrigue to the room. A well-hidden projector can even make a static canvas painting appear alive, with light casting dynamic shadows and bringing the artwork to life.

Moss Walls

A growing trend in biophilic design is the use of moss and lichen to create miniature landscapes indoors. These natural elements add life and color to any wall and bring the outdoors inside. Though they require some maintenance, they thrive in areas with indirect light, making them ideal for windowless spaces.

Painter’s Tape

Feeling crafty? Use painter’s tape to create your own graphic patterns on the wall. The beauty of this is that you can change it whenever you like. Try Dulux Ambience colors to design interesting patterns with geometric shapes, or opt for Dulux’s textured or effects paints for a more dynamic finish. A minimal painting or mirrors can complete the look.

Creative Shelves

A large empty wall is perfect for a shelving unit. Fill it with books, art pieces, plants, or personal collections. For a complementary effect, choose a neutral wall color like Dulux Shaded Ice or Marble Pebble and place the shelves in front of it. If you prefer a less bulky solution, a minimalist console table styled with books and decor objects can also work beautifully.

Design with Dulux Ambience

Bring personality to your walls with Dulux Ambience special effect paints, offering finishes like Linen, Marble, Metallic, Velvet, and ColourMotion. Make your space uniquely yours with #MyFutureWall.
